lake house canandaigua

The Lake House on Canandaigua welcomes all generations to the Finger Lakes region, invigorating year-round interest in Canandaigua Lake and its community. As a family owned and operated hotel with world-class design, locally inspired dining, and premier event spaces, the Lake House is the ideal destination for family gatherings and important events. With 125 guest rooms and suites, there is a timber frame event barn, a pool and year-round hot tub, a spa, a wellness center, and boardwalk for water sports. Both casual and fine dining options are located on the property, including a to be named signature restaurant, the newly integrated New York Kitchen, and a re-imagined Sand Bar. The hotel sits at the top nook of Lake Canandaigua, with waterfront views from the rooms, restaurant, seasonal heated pool and year-round hot tub, lakeside bar and even the stunning timber-framed events barn (where we did yoga). Bill Caleo, son of Richard Sands, formed The Brooklyn Home Company, a boutique arts-driven development cooperative that helped to open the Lake House in August 2020.

Whether you’re staying in a standard room or upgrading to a suite, one of the highlights of the accommodations at The Lake House on Canandaigua is the private outdoor space in every room. First-room rooms open out onto large, covered patios, and upper-level rooms have expansive covered terrace space. The property is stunning and the staff are incredibly kind and welcoming. The food was spectacular- the best steak we’ve ever had was at the Rose Tavern. Even on a rainy day, there was a ton of games to play in the library bar and enjoy a delicious cocktail.

Lake Life Life is better at Canandaigua Lake.

The Rose Tavern is the property’s more elevated dining space, an impressive New American-style restaurant with fresh, seasonal dishes that show off the bounty of the Finger Lakes. Enjoy fresh, locally sourced fare in Rose Tavern, visit Sand Bar for a beer and a burger, enjoy a cup of coffee or a cocktail in our Library, and our seasonal Pool Bar & Grill is the perfect spot to soak in the summer sun. Nestled along the shores of gorgeous Canandaigua Lake, The Lake House on Canandaigua perfects the experience of the summertime lakeside getaway the Finger Lakes do so well. Whether you’re looking to get out on the water or simply enjoy long conversations with a water view, this incredible hotel in the Finger Lakes is the best place for it. Canandaigua is one of the larger Finger Lakes (of which there are 11), and the town of Canandaigua has a Main Street worth exploring for its historic architecture, quaint shops and a cozy creperie.

On-Site Restaurant

Rose Tavern is the signature restaurant at the Lake House on Canandaigua. You’ll find a handful of great restaurants in the area, plus an amazing antique mall (the Ontario Antique Mall) just a 15 minute drive away. Although there are lots of options for places to stay in the Finger Lakes, you’ll quickly see why I recommend Canandaigua and particularly, The Lake House on Canandaigua. If you’re looking for a getaway that ticks all of those boxes, this review of the Lake House on Canandaigua is for you. I recently had the opportunity to spend 3 lovely days at The Lake House on Canandaigua, and it was really the perfect place for an ultra relaxing getaway. Guests can take them out on the water themselves or request a chartered cruise around the lake. Coffee cruises in the mornings are some of the most popular experiences, though guests can also choose from afternoon or evening cruises as well. Many of the activities, especially in the summer, involve the lake. This includes sailing and swimming, as well as kayaking and canoeing. Though we did not tour it, the spa will surely be a draw after it opens (right now, that’s slated for Memorial Day). But it’s the smaller details—water bottle-filling stations, no single-use plastic—that continue to impress.

This is where nostalgia meets new memories, relaxation leaves plenty of room for adventure, and the boundaries between outdoors and in are relaxed. From picnics on the lawn to celebratory, candlelit dinners at Rose Tavern, and fresh oysters enjoyed lakeside at the Sand Bar during the summer months, there’s an atmospheric dining option for every moment of life. Equal parts American tavern and forward-thinking bistro, Rose Tavern features a menu designed to showcase the region’s stellar produce and internationally celebrated wines. And there’s no better way to cap a day at the lake than by sliding into a sun-warmed seat at the Sand Bar, cold beer in hand. Featuring 124 beautifully designed guest rooms, a timber frame event barn, outdoor pool, and incredible spa, The Lake House on Canandaigua makes for a destination, not simply just a hotel to stay at.

What's nearby

We also had a beautiful large balcony overlooking the lake and outdoor pool. The guest rooms and suites at The Lake House on Canandaigua provide you with a tranquil space where you can truly feel relaxed, comfortable, and feel a true sense of peace take over. The rooms feature hand carved furniture, beautiful modern amenities, wood detailing, and the comfiest beds.

At Sand Bar you’ll find an excellent beer, wine, and cocktail list, plus a food menu full of bar favourites.

I loved the scent of the body wash so much I actually bought a bottle at the spa to take home with me. I absolutely loved our bathroom at the Lake House on Canandaigua. Of course they also had Nespresso machines which meant each morning started off with a great cup of coffee. The Lake House on Canandaigua uses a filtered water system where they have still and sparkling water available on each floor and you can refill the bottles as you please. One of my favourite features of the rooms were the reusable water bottles. During our stay at the Lake House on Canandaigua we stayed in one of their beautiful Lake Queen Queen rooms.

Please note that all Special Requests are subject to availability and additional charges may apply. Cancellation and prepayment policies vary according to accommodations type. Please enter the dates of your stay and check what conditions apply to your preferred room. There are a variety of facilities on offer to guests of The Inn on the Lake Canandaigua, including meeting rooms, luggage storage and laundry facilities. One of my absolute favourite amenities at the Lake House on Canandaigua was hands down Willowbrook Spa. Open Thursday to Sunday, Sand Bar is a local favourite and institution in Canandaigua.

Centered around a wood-fired hearth, Rose Tavern is heralded for embracing local ingredients and classic cooking techniques. Among the Finger Lakes, the smaller Canandaigua Lake might not get as much love as its larger neighbors. With everything travelers need for a dream summer getaway on the water, this new Upstate New York hotspot is worth moving to the top of your bucket list. Or, get out on the lake by taking out one of the hotel’s pontoon boats or speedboats.

Essential API Design Patterns: A Guide to Crafting Superior Web Services

api design patterns

When a client makes a request, a token is removed from the bucket. If the bucket is empty, the client must wait until a token is added back to the bucket, which happens at a fixed rate. APIs are contracts that define how applications, services, and components communicate. Yes, they are designed for efficient handling of large data streams and ensure reliable message delivery. APIs that use hypermedia links in responses to guide users through their functionality. They allow clients to request exactly what they need, reducing data overfetching and underfetching.

Response Codes

This technique helps us to make sure that we don't send more than twenty workouts at the same time with our response to the client. To move on in our architecture it would be advisable to create another controller, another service, and another collection of database methods that are responsible for records. That's the reason why it's always a good practice to return proper HTTP error codes for different cases. This helps the consumer or the engineer who built the API to identify the problem more easily. When interacting with an API, you always send specific data with your request or you receive data with the response. There are many different data formats but JSON (Javascript Object Notation) is a standardized format.

api design patterns

Partial Response

For any REST API call, there is an implicit system query parameter $fields, which is the JSON representation of a google.protobuf.FieldMask value. Theresponse message will be filtered by the $fields before being sent back tothe client. This logic is handled automatically for all API methods by the APIPlatform.

Introduction to Microservices and APIs

In this answer, we’ll cover some of the best practices for building a RESTful API, as well as some common pitfalls to avoid. In general, the choice of API design pattern will depend on the specific needs of the project and the system architecture. RESTful API is often a good choice for simple CRUD operations, while GraphQL may be a better choice for complex queries. RPC API and SOAP API can be more efficient for certain types of operations but can be more complex to implement and maintain. Hypermedia API, event-driven API, and message queue API can be useful for certain types of systems and applications but may require additional tooling and infrastructure.

api design patterns

They can all use the same kind of nesting structure for the path names. When you have collections of data, often you need provide the client a way to page through ororder the elements. Different approaches havedifference impacts on performance and database design. Remember to document your API thoroughly, provide clear examples, and ensure consistent and meaningful error handling. When you look at the top of our comment under "tags", you can see that I've added another key called "parameters", where I've defined our query parameter for filtering. There may be also resources or interactions with our API we don't want to allow every user to request.

ReadingLists.React.createElement(ReadingLists.ManningOnlineReadingListModal,

For example, a normal user shouldn't be able to access information of another user. We can also specify the fields to sort by in the query string. For instance, we can get the parameter from a query string with the fields we want to sort the data for.

It acts as a protection mechanism against cascading failures, which can occur when one service fails and causes other services that depend on it to also fail. Why would you want to use API design patterns in the first place? Besides, you understand your business and its technical problems better. While this might be true, designing a good API requires more than domain expertise. In the code above, we have the req.query variable to get the query parameters. We then extract the property values by destructuring the individual query parameters into variables using the JavaScript destructuring syntax.

Software Application Architecture

Versioning in REST APIs allows the introduction of new features, bug fixes, and updates while ensuring that existing client applications remain functional. In general, the following standard guidelines should be followed while designing high-quality Restful APIs. The good news is that some Restful web frameworks provide an out-of-the-box implementation for Statelessness. One thing to specifically avoid with friendly REST endpoint names is describing actions as it does not convey any new information about the request. X-RateLimit-Remaining specifies the number of requests a client has left before it reaches the limit.

REST API Design Guidance

As you can see, logical nesting makes sense when you have resources that can be tied together. Theoretically you can nest it how deep you want, but the rule of thumb here is to go three levels deep at a maximum. For example, there is a workout where you have to do a certain order of exercises as quickly as possible. We record the times for all members to have a list of the time for each member who completed this workout. Things like "GET /api/v1/getAllWorkouts" or "DELETE api/v1/deleteWorkout/workoutId" are unnecessary.

In our application we'd like to create, read, update and delete WOD's (Workouts of the Day). This will help our users (that will be gym owners) come up with workout plans and maintain their own workouts inside a single application. On top of that, they also can add some important training tips for each workout. API-first is a development model in which applications are conceptualized and built with services that are delivered through APIs. Whereas companies that take a code-first approach might view APIs as afterthoughts, API-first companies design their APIs before they develop their applications. This strategy enables consumers and producers to collaborate on API definitions before the implementations are built out, which improves both the quality and usability of APIs.

Before we start implementing the best practices into our example project, I'd like to give you a brief introduction to what we'll be building. They should give you a direction to make your API's better in terms of user experience (for the consumer and the builder), security, and performance. There are helpful articles online which present many best practices, but many of them lack some practicality in my opinion. Knowing the theory with few examples is good, but I've always wondered how the implementation would look in a more real world example. These decisions should be captured in an API definition, which is a human- and machine-readable representation of an API's intended functionality. A domain-scoped name is an entity name that is prefixed by a DNS domain name toprevent name collisions.

We also need ways to paginate data so that we only return a few results at a time. We don't want to tie up resources for too long by trying to get all the requested data at once. After about the second or third level, nested endpoints can get unwieldy. Consider, instead, returning the URL to those resources instead, especially if that data is not necessarily contained within the top level object. The POST, PUT, and DELETE endpoints all take JSON as the request body, and they all return JSON as the response, including the GET endpoint. In the code above, we defined the endpoints to manipulate articles.

There are some great tools out there that make our lives easier. I know that documentation is definitely not a favorite task of developers, but it's a necessary thing to do. I like to start as simple and as clean as possible with everything I build.

The Only Cruise Packing List You'll Ever Need

what to pack for the cruise

It’s not saying you have to bring everything on the list, but it offers up a lot of ideas that you’ll want to consider. An alarm clock going off during your vacation may be the last thing you want to hear. But you should make an exception for a cruise vacation, most cabins are located deep in the interior of the ship, where telling whether it’s day or night is almost impossible. An alarm clock will help you wake up in good time so as not to miss any fun activities you have signed for on the cruise. This may seem obvious, but you would be surprised at how many people forget to pack essential clothing attire for a cruise vacation. Take a look at the list below to help you what kind of travel wear to pack.

The 10 Best Shore Excursions for Families

Depending on your cruise line, the brand offers two different size options and packs of four, six, eight, or 20 holders. Shoppers say the luggage tag holders, which have over 1,600 five-star ratings, feel sturdy on their bags and save them time at check-in. “The braided steel rings secure the tags to the bags much better than staples,” said one cruiser.

Lessons I’ve Learned from Traveling Solo

Sure you might think that it’s tossing some shorts and a swimsuit into a suitcase. On a cruise, however, you’re hanging out by the pool in a swimsuit, dressing up for dinner, wearing casual clothes to the buffet, and putting on something warm for a show in the theater. Cruise Hive was established back in 2008 and among the earliest blogs in the industry. Since the start, it's been our aim to provide the latest cruise news covering all the major cruise lines.

Cruise Packing Tips

I have two more cruises coming up this year, and each of these items will tour Europe on Holland America Line and the Middle East on Windstar Cruises with me. On many of those sailings, I felt some regret about what I failed to bring and was even annoyed by some things I packed that I didn’t actually need. With each cruise, I kept incrementally improving the contents of my suitcase, weeding out items that were a waste of space and making room for my non-negotiables. From wildlife viewing and keeping your cabin organized to getting an excellent night's sleep and avoiding seasickness, these must-pack products will ensure smooth sailing on your next vacation. The lightweight gel formula glides on easily and offers SPF 50 protection. It’s infused with macadamia and hibiscus oils to ward off UV ray damage and Vitamin E to protect the skin from environmental stressors.

Pack sunscreen as well as aloe vera or after-sun lotion, just in case. And make sure to put it in your checked bag if you’re flying to the city where your cruise starts. The Right Mix of ShoesYou’ll want to toss some sneakers into your bag if you’re interested in doing things on board like playing laser tag, jumping on the zip line or hitting the Sports Court. Anti-slip, closed-toe water shoes are also good to have for active shore excursions, like snorkeling in Bermuda or exploring cenote swimming holes in Mexico. All those gadgets will need charging, too, so don’t forget those chargers. A power strip (preferably with built-in USB ports) can help ensure that the stateroom has more than enough juice to go around.

You can buy toothpaste, batteries, and tissues in most places around the world—and also on the cruise ship, albeit at stiff prices. Depending on which cruise line you’re sailing, the cabin may not have the same outlets as the United States, and it most likely won’t have USB ports either. That’s why my “what to pack for a cruise” list has some crossover with my “things to never forget when traveling overseas” list.

what to pack for the cruise

It’s only a few bucks and can keep you from feeling bad if the ocean picks up. Best of all, you don’t have to worry about big wet spots on your clothes if you use a cover instead of putting shorts and a tank top over your outfit. We like to call the day after the first day at sea “Lobster Day.” That’s because many people spent the first day getting too much sun and look like a bunch of lobsters walking around the ship. To be sure, not all wi-fi connections on a cruise allow streaming, and even if they do, internet is expensive on the ship.

Refillable Water Bottle

“I bought this for a Caribbean vacation,” said one reviewer who used this pouch on a few different water excursions and while swimming in the ocean. “It kept my phone completely dry,” they said noting that they had space to store a small wallet in the pouch as well. When you’re at sea, it can get chilly after the sun goes down. Don’t miss out on stargazing from the deck or cozying up in a lounge chair with a box of popcorn for a dive-in movie. Stay warm and comfortable with a light jacket, sweater, sweatshirt or wrap.

Clothing/Accessories

But what really caught my attention about this product is that it leaves a shimmery shine on your skin that will make you look sunkissed — even if you spent all day lounging in the shade. You can choose between three colors, each leaving a different metallic shimmer on the skin. I will definitely be covering myself in this sunscreen before heading to the pool.

And if you’re the sort of person who likes getting up early to be the first off the ship, then this $20 alarm clock is worth its weight in gold. Having a few episodes to binge on a cruise is one of our guilty pleasures. It’s also a great way to keep kids entertained if you feel like taking it easy in the cabin. Many lines have apps for your phone with things like maps and schedules that are extremely helpful. As well, many people hop on the wi-fi to stay in touch back home.

You’ll need some essential documentation and a properly stocked wallet to ensure that everything goes off without a hitch. Bring along your makeup (and don’t forget the makeup remover). You might also want a small bottle of perfume or cologne, too. Hairdryers are provided in each stateroom, and all Celebrity ships have an onboard salon should you wish to try a new look.

I pack my toiletries in a hanging toiletry bag and it saves a lot of space in the cabin bathroom. No matter the dress code, make sure to pack cruise wear for the weather. If cruising in a cool climate, pack layers for the day if spending time outdoors.

Read through Cruise Critic's packing guide to learn the ropes, get the inside scoop on savvy-cruiser packing hacks and see examples of what to wear for different activities and climates. Many cruisers tend to overpack when it comes to clothes and shoes but sometimes forget about other necessities. For water sports like kayaking, consider a dry bag to stow your camera gear, smartphone and wallet and prevent them from getting wet. Waterproof cases for your cellphone and camera are also useful, as well as "beach wallets" that let you go into the water with your credit cards and cash on your person. Newer cruise ships are designed so every cabin has enough electrical outlets and USB ports conveniently located throughout the room.

You’re more vulnerable as a foreigner, because you don’t know exactly how the money is supposed to look. As a general rule of thumb, it is not safe or advised to exchange money on the street. You will be offered money exchange on the street wherever you go in Cuba.

Download A La Mesa for a list of restaurants all over the country. For us, that looked like many, many art tours and private gallery visits where we connected with local artists and had countless meaningful, deep conversations. You must have a full-time schedule of activities that result in meaningful engagement with Cubans. The key is to visit legally, within the confines of OFAC (Office of Foreign Asset Control) regulations due to the embargo and sanctions. In this post, I will cover Cuba travel FAQ and share how to visit Cuba legally as a US citizen or from a US airport.

Do you need to speak Spanish to visit Cuba?

Cruise shore excursions are usually organized by the cruise company/ship operator in cooperation with Havanatur (state-owned Cuban tour agency). A smaller number of passenger privately hire local tour guides or taxi drivers (of restored classic American cars) for city touring. You will find your favorite Caribbean cruise ports no matter what direction you go. Travel the Southern side and wander down the colorful streets of San Juan, Puerto Rico. On the Western, dive into the crystal clear waters of Grand Cayman or explore the ruins of Tulum when arrive in Cozumel.

Can you check in online for flights to Cuba?

You can tour his Cuban home called La Vigia, or sip a drink in his honour at old-school bars like El Floridita and La Bodeguita del Medio. Fernández de Cossío also cited the lack of some legal channels for Cuban citizens to come to the U.S. for illegal crossings along the southern border by Cubans. The answer used to be yes, as long as you purchased them from a private shop instead of a stated-owned one. The best advice I can give is to travel with someone who speaks Spanish fluently.

My best friend said many times while we were in Cuba that she would be toast without my language skills. If you don’t speak Spanish and you’re not traveling with a friend who does, download Google Translate for offline use before you arrive. There was bottled water for sale everywhere on our trip in December 2022, but I read online before leaving that you can’t bank on that.

On June 4, 2019, the US Government announced new regulations (economic sanctions) that ended group travel to Cuba, including via US-homeported cruise liners, effective immediately. The ban relates to "private and corporate aircraft, cruise ships, sailboats, fishing boats, and other similar aircraft and vessels". The US travel restrictions impacted hundreds of pre-scheduled cruise itineraries, which were adjusted to no longer stop in Cuban seaports.

Pick up souvenirs at the Calle Obispo craft market, or spend the morning browsing through second-book stalls. The Museum of Fine Arts is another impressive attraction with its Cuban artworks, or you can tour a cigar factory to learn how these famous exports are made! And don’t miss a journey up the Casablanca hill to see the El Cristo statue and sweeping city views. "We're open to having more" deportation flights, said Fernández de Cossío, who visited Washington this week to meet with Biden administration officials for the latest round of migration talks between the two countries.

Can Americans Travel to Cuba?

You can reserve those online in advance from Suena and pick them up at the José Martí airport (in Havana). If you go this route, you want the Tourist SIM Card from the top menu. If a travel guide says there are only one-hour WiFi cards, it is outdated.

Once we landed in Havana, I knew that this place was unlike any I’d visited before. The sinking of USS Maine in Havana Harbor during the Cuban revolt against Spain in 1898 became a major political issue and the immediate cause of the Spanish-American War (April 21 - August 13, 1898). Its terms were favorable to the USA, allowing temporary US control over Cuba. The war also resulted in the USA ceding ownership of the islands Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines. Please advise Travelex that Whodunit Productions is the travel company for this trip.

If calm, contemplative nature is more your thing, spend the day admiring cascading waterfalls in Jamaica and the vivid coral reefs of Bonaire, home to manta rays and parrot fish. For the first time in several decades, US tourism is returning to Cuba. Culturally and technologically speaking, much of Cuba has been stuck in the 1950s since revolutions and political turmoil led to a series of trade embargos. This means Cuba is still catching up with the rest of the world, but that’s part of the experience when cruising to Cuba! Be one of the firsts to explore this unique nation before it loses any of its unique nostalgia. Depending on your itinerary, you might be able to tour cities like Havana, Trinidad and Santiago – each of which features wistful combinations of old and new.

Please refer to this government site for updated information before your visit. I never worried about being robbed and just felt at ease the entire time I was there. But Washington and Havana have worked together on immigration, including by signing the 1994 U.S.-Cuba Migration Accords, which officials from both nations are discussing this week. The two countries' work on immigration has intensified in recent years amid the record arrival of hundreds of thousands of Cubans to the U.S.-Mexico border. For a look at the way that the city's culture has developed over the years (both before and after the Revolution), the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes is the place to go. Ambassador Cruise Line Ambition Preview

ambassador cruise

Certainly the ship’s refurbishment is a triumph and the Promenade Deck’s lounge and bar areas flow particularly well, as a glance at Ambassador Ambition’s deck plan makes clear. Cabin sizes come in at an average of sqm, with cabin types broadly classified as standard, superior, premium or de-luxe. However, while the décor in the lower grade cabins does look a little tired, we were impressed with the space they have (the smallest is 17.7 sqm), as well as the variety of options available to solo cruisers – more on this in our cabins section. Location wise, cabins at the aft of the ship are ideal for quicker access to both the Buckingham Restaurant and the Borough Market. Although saying this, there are three sets of lifts (which have a quirky design, left from its Pacific Dawn days) spread across Ambience, meaning it's pretty easy to manoeuvre your way around. Ambassador's Ambience has six dining options, including a main dining room, the Buckingham Restaurant on Deck 7; and a buffet called Borough Market on Deck 12.

The combination of state-of-the-art facilities and spectacular recreations makes Ambassador Cruise an impeccable destination for the most exceptional marine adventures. Ambassador sails for the British market from eight regional ports with a focus on premium-value. Ambassador Cruise Line’s first ship, Ambience, set sail from Tilbury in April 2022 on an ex-UK no-fly range of voyages.

LAN HA BAY WEATHER

It is our first time here in Vietnam and we chose Ha Long bay as one of our destination and we made the best choice. Places are so majestic, foods are very good especially the seafood. A hotel & cruise combo – an ideal combination of peaceful heavens above water to experience Northern Vietnam’s must-see landmarks or an all-inclusive cruise dedicated to discover the finest Halong Bay – you might have them all. Most of the lounge bars are on Deck 5 and 6, with the complimentary dining rooms at the back of each deck and entrances to The Palladium theatre at the front, so you can drift from dinner, to a bar and the show all on the same deck.
